Breast Revision

Breast revision surgery is for those with existing breast implants who want to change the size, shape, or type of implant. It is a specialty procedure that can also be undertaken to address complications from a previous breast procedure. Spectrum Plastic Surgery offers breast revision surgical options for women who are unhappy with their current breast implants and want to achieve natural, healthy, comfortable breast implant results. However, some women are understandably wary of a revision surgery because of a former subpar experience. They want to be certain their results will look beautiful and organic. Our practice has the Vectra 3D Imaging technology, which allows patients to use their real body to see simulated “after” photos. Only select practices have this system, and for women considering a breast revision procedure it is an important element in their decision when choosing a surgeon.

Reasons and Benefits For Breast Revision

There are many reasons a woman may need or want breast revision surgery. Sometimes a saline implant has deflated, a silicone implant has a leak, or a woman is unhappy with the size or shape of her current implants. If a breast implant has caused rippling of the skin, capsular contraction is present and causing stiffness and discomfort of the breast, or when a woman has had a weight fluctuation and the current breast implants no long complement her figure, she may choose breast revision surgery.

The ideal candidate for breast revision surgery is a woman in good health, who is not pregnant or nursing, and who is unsatisfied with her current breast implants. You should be a non-smoker and may need to stop certain medications under the guidance of your prescribing physician before undergoing any surgical breast procedure.

This surgery has multiple benefits, such as:

  • The ability to reposition breast implants to a more pleasing aesthetic

  • Repositioning the nipples and areolas for a more symmetrical look

  • Increasing comfort by placing the right sized implants

  • Increasing confidence and self-esteem

  • Placing implants that align with a woman’s current lifestyle

Frequenty Asked Questions
Will I have more or new scars after my breast revision?2020-04-29T10:23:39-07:00

Not necessarily. Whenever possible, incisions during the breast revision procedure utilize existing scars. This helps reduce scarring and helps with the patient’s peace of mind. You will know your exact incision placement prior to the procedure.

Where should I place breast implants, on top or below the muscle?2020-04-29T10:27:12-07:00

This is a decision to be made in collaboration with your surgeon. There are benefits to both placements, and our practice regularly works with women who opt for a revision surgery to place their implants below the muscle. This offers a more natural look in many cases, especially for very slender women, and many women report that it feels more comfortable and secure.

What types of breast implants do you have available?2020-04-29T10:26:12-07:00

If your current implants were placed several years ago, many advances have been made in the world of breast augmentation. Today, patients and surgeons have more choices than ever, and our practice proudly offers a wide selection for full customization. Breast size, shape, material, texture, and placement can all be customized.

I’m worried about the news regarding unhealthy breast implants. Do you use safe implants?2020-04-29T10:25:21-07:00

The breast implants making headlines about lack of safety only represent a fraction of breast implants available today. The breast implants recently recalled are the Allergan BioCell textured breast implants, which is a very specific type of breast implant. There are two primary textures of breast implants, smooth and textured, and both are offered by most breast implant manufacturers. Spectrum Plastic Surgery puts patient safety first, which is why we only recommend implants from a wide selection that have been shown to be safe and effective.
